The total project represents a $62 million investment from Lumos and the State of South Carolina.  

HIGH POINT, N.C. (March 20, 2024) – Lumos, a leading 100% Fiber Optic Internet service provider in the Mid-Atlantic, broke ground yesterday in Spartanburg, South Carolina, with the Spartanburg Area Chamber of Commerce, OneSpartanburg. With this expansion, thousands of homes and small businesses in Upstate S.C. will have access to Lumos’ ultra-fast internet. 

Lumos will utilize public and private funds for the expansion, including a $1.2 million grant from South Carolina’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Capital Project Fund Grant Program for development in Spartanburg County.

“Internet usage is growing rapidly year over year and will require a network of 100% Fiber Optic Internet to keep up with consumer and business needs going forward,” said Lumos CEO Brian Stading. “We are proud to be growing across South Carolina, working with organizations and utilizing federal programs, like the American Rescue Plan, to bring fiber internet to communities in Spartanburg and the surrounding communities.”

Lumos is proactively working to help bridge the digital divide by expanding its 100% Fiber Optic network into unserved and underserved neighborhoods in South Carolina. The company’s network will bring residents reliable, high-speed fiber internet service, providing them with the bandwidth necessary for working from home, remote learning, attending telehealth appointments, streaming, gaming, and more.
